King Mohammed VI on Friday presided over the launch of a major industrial project by France’s Safran, marking the start of construction of an aircraft landing systems plant in Nouaceur, near Casablanca.
The facility, to be built within the Midparc aerospace industrial zone, will be operated by Safran Landing Systems and is expected to become one of the group’s largest global production sites for aircraft landing gear.
Designed primarily to support the Airbus A320 program, the plant will integrate high-precision manufacturing, advanced assembly, testing, certification and maintenance activities. The project reflects Morocco’s growing role in global aerospace supply chains.
Speaking at the ceremony, Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour said Morocco has, over the past two decades, developed into a globally recognized aerospace hub, citing skilled human capital and competitive industrial infrastructure. He described Safran as a long-standing strategic partner that has accompanied the sector’s expansion for more than 25 years.
Safran Chairman Ross McInnes said the project represents an investment of more than 280 million euros ($300 million) and will create about 500 jobs once operational. The facility will run entirely on carbon-free energy and is expected to attract additional suppliers to Morocco’s aerospace ecosystem, he said.
McInnes added that the new plant will help Safran meet rising demand for short- and medium-haul aircraft while strengthening a more resilient and streamlined industrial model through proximity to Airbus assembly lines in Europe.
The launch ceremony concluded with the signing of a protocol agreement formalizing the project, underscoring Morocco’s strategy to position itself as a competitive, integrated industrial platform in the global aviation industry.
