Morocco begins emergency feed distribution for farmers hit by floods near Ksar el-Kebir

Moroccan agricultural authorities on Sunday began distributing animal feed to farmers affected by flooding in rural areas surrounding Ksar el-Kebir, following appeals from livestock breeders and farmers in the region.

The Loukkos Regional Office for Agricultural Development said the operation covers the communes of Souakene, Oulad Ouchih and Souk Tleta as part of a special emergency support program.

The aid targets farmers enrolled in dairy cooperatives raising cattle, as well as sheep breeders in flood-affected villages, according to preliminary data.

Youssef Bensjai, head of agricultural development at the Loukkos office, said the operation launched from the Douar Drrabla area in Souakene and is expected to benefit breeders of about 23,800 cattle and 35,000 sheep.

In the first phase, authorities will distribute 568 metric tons of cattle feed and 163 metric tons of sheep feed, Bensjai told local media.

He said the initiative is part of broader measures to support farmers facing severe flooding, adding that assessments are ongoing to determine the full extent of agricultural damage. Initial estimates put flooded farmland at about 19,000 hectares, a figure that could rise in the coming days.

Bensjai urged farmers to organize collectively and support one another to overcome the crisis, stressing that the Agriculture Ministry in the Tangier–Tetouan–Al Hoceima region is working to provide continued assistance to affected farmers.
