Morocco’s government said weather disruption affecting the kingdom and neighbouring countries has not, for now, impacted the supply of national markets, and that authorities are taking all measures needed to ensure normal and continuous provision of goods despite effects on navigation, government spokesman Mustapha Baitas said at the weekly news briefing after the cabinet council meeting.
Baitas said Morocco has recorded exceptional rainfall, with accumulated precipitation of 150 mm from Sept. 1, 2025 to Feb. 5, 2026, concentrated in short periods and representing a 35 percent surplus compared with the normal average.
He said snowfall covered more than 55,000 square kilometres and produced record dam inflows of 9.53 billion cubic metres, a 98 percent surplus versus the average.
He said 95 percent of those inflows were recorded since mid December, including 5.39 billion cubic metres over just 15 days, which he said exceeds volumes registered in some full hydrological years.
As a result, he said the dam fill rate rose from 31.1 percent on Dec. 12, 2025 to 64.15 percent, with stored water reaching 10.75 billion cubic metres. Baiteas said no loss of life has been recorded so far, citing close monitoring and continued response planning.
On the economy, Baiteas cited reports he said show improvement across sectors, pointing to foreign exchange office data indicating tourism revenues rose from about 93.93 billion dirhams to more than 138 billion dirhams in 2025, up about 20 percent from 2024 levels of more than 114 billion.
He said remittances from Moroccans abroad rose from 118 billion to more than 122 billion dirhams, and foreign investment receipts increased 28 percent year on year.
He said the head of government thanked King Mohammed VI for directives enabling the deployment of Royal Armed Forces, in coordination with other services, to speed evacuations and protect threatened residents, adding the government remains mobilised and praised the work of security, auxiliary and civil protection units involved in flood response.
