Local authorities in Sidi Kacem province continued Saturday their proactive plan to manage risks from the rising waters of Sebou River, organizing a preventive evacuation targeting the residents of Ait Daoud village in the commune of Tekna, in order to safeguard lives and property.
The operation involved relocating over 60 residents to nearby safe villages, away from flood-prone areas. Authorities and emergency teams ensured their temporary accommodation and coordinated transport to secure locations.
In parallel, vigilance committees paid special attention to protecting livestock, a key economic resource in the region, by relocating animals to safe areas away from the river’s course.
Councilor Jaloul Jellawi praised the preventive approach adopted by authorities, noting that timely evacuation helps prevent a repeat of past flood scenarios. He also highlighted the positive response and cooperation of the residents, which facilitated a smooth and safe operation, according to MAP.
The evacuation saw extensive field mobilization, with the Royal Gendarmerie, Civil Protection, and Auxiliary Forces coordinating closely with provincial and local authorities. All available logistical and human resources were deployed to ensure the safety of residents and their property.
Authorities remain on high alert, closely monitoring Sebou River’s hydrological situation and ready to provide immediate support to residents if needed.
