The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco set new global digital records, attracting 6 billion digital views across social media platforms, the Confederation of African Football said.
CAF said the tournament became the most digitally watched continental competition, with 5.2 billion video views, highlighting the growing global influence of African football and the strong engagement of African diaspora communities.
“The tournament’s content, from spectacular goals and dramatic moments to behind-the-scenes footage and fan reactions, spread rapidly across borders, languages, and cultures, reinforcing its status as a global event,” CAF said on its official website.
Fans were at the center of the engagement, generating 285 million interactions, a record level of participation and emotional involvement. TikTok emerged as a key platform, with fans creating more than 1 million videos using #TotalEnergiesAFCON2025, turning the tournament into a cultural phenomenon beyond the pitch.
CAF noted that fans shared content ranging from goal celebrations and tactical analysis to humor, music, and fashion inspired by the competition. The digital engagement attracted younger audiences and expanded the reach of African football culture worldwide.
“The digital success of AFCON 2025 reflects CAF’s ongoing commitment to innovation, fan engagement, and global growth,” the organization said, adding that the tournament has set a new standard for how African football is experienced and celebrated globally.
