Algeciras Bay Port Authority said ferry services between the Spanish port of Tarifa and Tangier were suspended from 10 a.m. on Wednesday due to adverse weather conditions in the Gibraltar Strait, including heavy rain and strong winds.

Port authorities said all scheduled crossings from that time were cancelled, with only the 9 a.m. departure operating as planned. In total, nine sailings operated by Balearia and AML between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. were suspended, leaving the Tarifa Tangier route out of service for the entire day.

Ferry services between Algeciras and Tangier Med remained operational, although passengers were urged to exercise caution and monitor official port updates in case of further disruption.

The suspension comes as the Spanish Meteorological Agency maintained a yellow weather alert for the area, forecasting rainfall of up to 15 litres per square metre in one hour and cumulative totals reaching 40 litres within 12 hours, with the warning in effect from mid afternoon until midnight.
