Le Havre, currently 13th in the French league standings, have signed Moroccan attacking midfielder Sofiane Boufal on a deal running until the end of the season, the club announced Wednesday.
The Ligue 1 side welcomed the 32-year-old in a statement, saying it was “looking forward to the arrival of our new player,” who will wear the No. 17 shirt.
Boufal began his professional career with Angers and later played for Lille before moving abroad, featuring for clubs including Southampton in England, Celta Vigo in Spain and Al Rayyan in Qatar.
He has earned 46 caps for Morocco, including appearances at the 2022 World Cup, where the Atlas Lions made history by reaching the semifinals.
Media reports had recently linked Boufal with a move to Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca following his departure from Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise. However, he was left out of Morocco coach Walid Regragui’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
Boufal could make his Le Havre debut on Sunday when the club visit Rennes in the 18th round of Ligue 1.
