Duke Buchan has been sworn in as the United States ambassador to Morocco, taking the oath of office before Vice President J D Vance ahead of his start in Rabat, the US Embassy in Morocco said in a social media post on Wednesday.
The embassy said Buchan would work to advance US ties with Morocco, which both governments often describe as among America’s longest running diplomatic relationships.
Buchan’s nomination was announced by President Donald Trump in March 2025 and confirmed by the US Senate on Oct. 7, 2025, according to congressional records.
US congressional material notes that Dec. 1, 2027 will mark 250 years since Morocco opened its ports to American ships, an early act of recognition that later anchored formal relations.
