The United States has appointed career diplomat Christopher Deutsch as its new consul general in Casablanca, the U.S. Mission in Morocco said Wednesday, Aug. 12.
Deutsch will oversee the consulate’s daily operations and advance U.S. priorities on trade, investment, education and cultural cooperation under Ambassador Duke Buchan III. The U.S. Embassy lists him as the current consul general in Casablanca.
Before moving to Morocco, Deutsch worked at the State Department in Washington on regional affairs and U.S. strategic engagement in the Middle East. His previous overseas assignments include Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, Italy and Haiti.
Deutsch said he would focus on strengthening ties with local partners and expanding economic opportunities between Morocco and the United States.
He holds degrees from Yale and Princeton universities and speaks Arabic, French, Italian, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
