Morocco is one of the best teams in the world, said Comorian international Saïd Bakari, who took part in the 35th Africa Cup of Nations currently being held in the Kingdom with the Coelacanths.
In a statement to ‘ESPN Netherlands’, the Comorian defender, confident in the Moroccan team’s potential, said that the Atlas Lions are among the top favourites to win the tournament.
“They have a very strong team with many quality players. They definitely have a chance to win the continental trophy,” he affirmed.
Referring to Comoros’ run, Bakari acknowledged that their AFCON experience in Morocco was short but intense. Eliminated in the group stage, the Coelacanths exited the tournament after two goalless draws against Zambia and Mali, and a 2–0 defeat to Morocco.
“We missed one point, that’s unfortunate,” regretted the Sparta Rotterdam player.
Despite this early exit, Bakari emphasized the importance of the match against the Atlas Lions, which he described as a “wonderful experience in a magnificent stadium, in front of a large crowd.” “It was an exceptional moment,” he insisted.
Bakari also highlighted the close ties between the two countries, noting that “Morocco and Comoros maintain very strong relations.” “It is a true privilege to be able to play such a game in Rabat,” he concluded.
