Morocco will award master’s level student grants for the 2025 2026 academic year based on two criteria, social need and academic merit, Higher Education Minister Azzedine Midaoui said in a letter sent to presidents of public universities.
Under the social criterion, the grants apply to students who previously benefited from the first tier scholarship.
The academic merit criterion will be based on applicants’ ranking in entrance examinations for master’s programs, within a 20 percent quota allocated to each university or institution for newly enrolled first year master’s students who did not previously receive the first tier scholarship, the minister said.
Midaoui said the scheme applies to Moroccan students who are not employed, do not practice a professional, commercial or paid activity, are not receiving another grant, and were no older than 30 at the end of last December. He said students may not receive the grant for more than two years.
The ministry set Jan. 10 as the deadline for social merit lists and Feb. 7 for academic merit lists, and said electronic data exchange will be the only channel for sharing student information with the national office for university social and cultural affairs.
