Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces have received the first batch of WhAP 8×8 wheeled armored vehicles produced at an industrial facility operated by India’s Tata Advanced Systems Ltd in Berrechid, near Casablanca, the company said Wednesday.

In a statement posted on X, Tata Advanced Systems described the delivery as a milestone in defense cooperation, noting the vehicles were “made in Morocco” under a strategic partnership with Rabat.

The Berrechid plant was inaugurated in September during the first official visit by an Indian defense minister to Morocco. The facility stems from an investment agreement signed in September 2024 and is part of Morocco’s strategy to build domestic defense manufacturing capacity.

According to Morocco’s National Defense Administration, the project aims to gradually increase local integration from 35 percent to 50 percent, supported by workforce training and the development of national suppliers.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said the plant reflects a partnership model focused on technology transfer, industrial sovereignty and job creation, rather than simple arms exports.
