Nayef Aguerd is undergoing medical tests on Monday to assess the injury he sustained during Morocco’s opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Comoros, the national team’s medical staff said.

Aguerd reported discomfort during the match, which Morocco won 2–0, prompting precautionary examinations to determine the nature and severity of the issue. The results will also clarify whether the defender will be available for the next Group A fixture against Mali.

The technical staff is expected to base its decision on the final medical report, either clearing Aguerd to play or granting him rest to avoid aggravating the injury.

Moroccan supporters are closely monitoring the situation, given Aguerd’s importance in the defensive line as competition intensifies in the continental tournament.
Morocco has already been hit by a defensive setback, with captain Romain Saïss forced off early in the Comoros match due to a muscle injury. He was replaced by Jawad El Yamiq.
