Morocco won the Arab Cup title after rallying from behind and defeating Jordan 3 2 after extra time in a high intensity final on Thursday night in Doha, with substitute Abderrazak Hamdallah scoring twice to decide the match.
The Atlas Lions took an early lead and controlled much of the first half, opening the scoring in the fourth minute through Oussama Tannane. The midfielder surprised the Jordan defense with a long range strike from close to midfield, sending a floating shot beyond goalkeeper Yazeed Abou Leila to give Morocco a 1 0 advantage.
Morocco continued to press, creating several chances to double the lead. Ayoub El Kaabi and Karim Berkaoui both tested the Jordan goalkeeper, while Issam Smeeri cleared a second Tannane effort off the line shortly before halftime. Jordan struggled to create opportunities before the break as Morocco dominated possession and tempo.
Jordan emerged with renewed intensity after halftime and equalized in the 47th minute when Ali Alwan headed in from close range. The goal shifted momentum, and Jordan grew into the match, forcing Morocco into a more cautious approach.
In the 63rd minute, a blocked shot struck a Moroccan defender’s hand inside the penalty area. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty, which Alwan converted to give Jordan a 2 1 lead.
Morocco responded by increasing pressure in the final stages. Munir Chouiar came close with a long range effort, and Hamdallah, introduced from the bench, caused repeated problems for the Jordan back line. The equalizer arrived in the 86th minute when Hamdallah finished from close range following a scramble in the penalty area, with the goal confirmed after a VAR check.
In extra time, Morocco capitalized on its momentum. Hamdallah struck again in the 100th minute with a composed finish to put Morocco ahead 3 2. The Atlas Lions held firm under late Jordan pressure to secure the title at Lusail Stadium.
