The African Development Bank has approved a 150 million euro credit line for Morocco’s Municipal Infrastructure Fund to finance sustainable and inclusive local investment projects, the bank said.
The funding is intended to support Moroccan local authorities in developing modern infrastructure, improving access to basic services, strengthening climate resilience and enhancing territorial connectivity, particularly in rural areas.
Priority sectors include road and transport infrastructure, drinking water supply, urban renewal, and the development of educational, cultural and sports facilities.
Ashraf Hassan Tarsim, the African Development Bank’s country manager for Morocco, said the financing would help establish modern infrastructure and turn local areas into competitive hubs that better serve residents. Ahmed Atout, director of financial sector development at the bank, said strengthening the fund’s capacity would contribute to more resilient, inclusive and dynamic territories.
The investments are expected to generate jobs, particularly for young people and women, boost local tax revenues and strengthen the role of local authorities in economic and social development.
The operation aligns with Morocco’s decentralization strategy and the African Development Bank’s development priorities.
