Cristiano Ronaldo was among the high profile guests at a White House dinner hosted Tuesday by US president Donald Trump in honor of Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Ronaldo, 40, whose contract in the Saudi Pro League expires next summer, was seated near Trump’s place at the head of the table moments before the president and the crown prince entered.
Trump told guests his son Barron, 19, a devoted football fan, had met the Portuguese star, joking to Ronaldo: “I think he respects his father a little more now, just because I introduced you to him.”
FIFA president Gianni Infantino also attended, as part of a separate visit linked to preparations for the 2026 World Cup co hosted by the United States.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk was present as well, signaling a cooling of tensions after months of public friction with Trump. Musk was seen speaking with guests at a separate candlelit table.
