Police in Marrakech on Monday arrested a 23-year-old French citizen of Algerian origin who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by French judicial authorities, according to an official Hespress AR security source.
The suspect was detained on Nov. 17 during a coordinated operation between Moroccan police and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance. A check of Interpol databases showed he was wanted by the National Central Bureau in Paris on suspicion of attempted murder as part of an organized criminal network.
During the search, officers found two small pieces of cannabis resin and a sum of Algerian currency in his possession, reinforcing suspicions of cross-border criminal activity, the source said.
The man was placed in police custody pending extradition procedures to France, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. Interpol’s Rabat office notified its French counterpart of the arrest.
Moroccan security authorities said the operation is part of ongoing international cooperation efforts to track down fugitives linked to transnational crime and to strengthen Morocco’s role as a key partner in combating organized criminal networks.
