Morocco defender Nayef Aguerd has returned early to Marseille after the national team decided to release him from training camp because of a groin injury, the same issue he suffered during Olympique Marseille’s match against Brest before the international break.
France’s La Provence reported that Aguerd underwent a series of medical examinations after joining the national team for friendlies against Mozambique and Uganda. The assessments were carried out by Morocco’s medical staff at the Mohammed VI Football Complex and later at a second facility in Tangier.
Following a full evaluation, team doctors and the player agreed he should return to Marseille’s training center, La Commanderie, to continue treatment and rest. Aguerd is expected to report to the club’s medical clinic in the coming hours to follow his recovery protocol. No timetable has been given for his return to the pitch.
The defender’s condition is being closely watched by Moroccan fans, with the Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Morocco, kicking off in 35 days. Aguerd remains a key figure in the national team’s defensive lineup.
