Maritime traffic between Tarifa in southern Spain and Tangier in northern Morocco remained suspended for a third consecutive day on Saturday as Storm Claudia brought strong winds and rough seas to the Strait of Gibraltar, Spanish port authorities said.

The ferry operator Africa Morocco Link cancelled all scheduled departures from Tarifa, while rival Balearia said it had not yet confirmed whether weekend crossings would resume.

The Tarifa–Tangier route is the fastest link between the two shores and is widely used by Moroccan travellers, students and cross-border workers.

Heavy rain, gale-force winds and waves exceeding four metres along Spain’s Cádiz province have forced ports to halt high-speed services since Thursday, according to the Port Authority of Algeciras Bay.

Spain’s state weather agency AEMET maintained yellow alerts across the Strait on Saturday for winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour and difficult navigation conditions.

Services from Algeciras to Tangier Med and Algeciras to Ceuta continued to operate with minor delays, Spanish authorities said, absorbing most of the passenger and freight pressure created by the shutdown of Tarifa.

Local Spanish media reported more than 300 weather-related incidents across Andalusia over the past 24 hours, including flooded streets, fallen trees and transport disruptions.

The regional emergency service said Cádiz and Málaga were among the most affected provinces as the Atlantic storm system moved eastward.

High-speed catamaran services in the Bay of Cádiz, used daily by commuters between Puerto de Santa María, Rota and Cádiz city, were also suspended for a second day. Authorities deployed replacement bus routes to maintain connections until conditions improve.
