The UN resolution on Moroccan Sahara has earned broad praise from West African media which hailed Morocco’s landmark diplomatic victory with regard to its territorial integrity.

Côte d’Ivoire’s local press described the resolution “historic” thanks to active diplomacy led HM King Mohammed VI, with a major turning point in the United Nations-led process.

AIP news agency outlines that this marks a major evolution in the United Nations stance, reaffirming that the solution should lie within the “realistic, pragmatic and lasting” Morocco’s autonomy plan framework.

The agency relays key passages from the HM King Mohammed VI’s address, which called on for a brotherly dialogue with Algeria, and extended olive branch to the populations of Tindouf camps to contribute to the devleopment of the Moroccan Sahara within the framework of autonomy

The AIP recalls that this historic resolution, which symbolically coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Green March, constitutes “a major diplomatic victory for Morocco,” one that is likely to further strengthen its sovereignty over its Sahara and consolidate its position on the international stage.

In another vein, the agency echoes the visit of the Director-General of the Agence Française du Développement (AFD) Group to the Moroccan Sahara, describing this initiative as a “significant step” in realizing the rapprochement between France and Morocco.

This visit is part of a clear desire to translate into action the commitments made by the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron, the same source notes, stressing that this visit reflects the shared determination of both countries to strengthen an already dense bilateral cooperation and to concretely support inclusive and sustainable development dynamics throughout Moroccan territory.

For its part, the electronic media outlet La Diplomatique d’Abidjan (LDA) writes that the Security Council resolution and the Royal Speech following the vote “reshape regional balances,” noting that it sends a strong message to Africa and the world, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Green March.

It continues by saying that with this major diplomatic achievement, “Morocco now asserts itself as a stabilizing power between the Atlantic, the Sahel, and the Mediterranean.”

In Benin, the daily newspaper La Nation writes that for “peace, unity, and Maghreb cooperation,” His Majesty the King emphasized “a constructive and non-confrontational approach concerning the Moroccan Sahara issue.”

It underlined that the Sovereign “clearly affirmed that Morocco in no way seeks to fuel antagonisms or deepen divisions” in light of the developments in this matter.

His Majesty the King directly addressed the populations of the Tindouf camps, sincerely inviting them to seize the historic opportunity represented by the Autonomy Initiative.

This proposal, it adds, “offers the possibility of reuniting with their families and actively contributing to managing their local affairs, develop their homeland, and build their future within a unified Morocco.

In Ghana, the Ghana News Agency (GNA), also reported on the Royal address, highlighting that the Sovereign welcomed the adoption of this resolution, describing it as a “landmark step” and a “decisive turning point” in the history of modern Morocco.

For its part, the Burkina Information Agency (AIB) considers that the Security Council resolution paves “the way to a new phase in the UN process, focused on consolidating the autonomy of the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty,” emphasizing that “for Morocco, this decision constitutes a major diplomatic victory” and “also confirms the international dynamic favorable to the Kingdom.”

In Sierra Leone, the newspaper Sierraloaded writes that this resolution, formally approving the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, represents a decisive turning point in the process of resolving this artificial conflict that has gone on for far too long.

The media outlet notes that Sierra Leone, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, voted in favor of this resolution, which explicitly supports the autonomy plan as the only serious, credible, and realistic basis for resolving the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

According to the Sierra Leonean outlet, this new resolution marks a “paradigm shift” in international policy on the Moroccan Sahara issue, grants the autonomy plan formal international legitimacy, and establishes it as the sole framework for resolving this artificial conflict.

It adds that for Sierra Leone, which maintains close diplomatic and economic ties with Morocco, this vote demonstrates Freetown’s support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, noting that the position of this West African country is also seen as reflecting broader African support for Morocco’s stance, particularly among countries that regard the autonomy plan as a pragmatic path toward regional stability.

In Gabon, the newspaper Gabonews notes that this new UN resolution on the Moroccan Sahara issue marks a decisive stage in the history of this dossier, stating that it confirms, at the international level, the relevance of HM the King’s enlightened vision.

In an article entitled “Moroccan Sahara: The consolidation of a royal vision that has become an international reference,” the Gabonese outlet stresses that thanks to the far-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has succeeded in transforming this artificial conflict into a model of lasting political solution.

The Sovereign has consistently upheld an approach that runs counter to logics of confrontation and agitation, explains the same source, noting that Royal diplomacy has been built over time, favoring international legality, historical legitimacy, and the quiet strength of development.

Arguing that this methodical choice has enabled Morocco to shape the international handling of the Moroccan Sahara issue, the publication states that the autonomy initiative has today established itself as the only serious, credible, and realistic basis for achieving a definitive settlement.

For the Gabonese outlet, the international community has gradually aligned itself with a position that the Kingdom has steadfastly defended for nearly two decades, adding that beyond the diplomatic dimension, Morocco’s choice has been to demonstrate through action that the proposed political solution rests on tangible reality.

Focusing on the development dynamics in the southern provinces of the Kingdom, the newspaper highlights massive investments in road, port, and airport infrastructure, the growing strength of renewable energies, particularly through solar and wind hubs, the rise of fishing, agro-industry, and logistics, the modernization of public services from health to education, and social inclusion programs aimed at youth and women.

“This momentum has turned the Moroccan Sahara into an economic hub of attraction in Africa, transforming an area once perceived as peripheral into a strategic crossroads connecting the Maghreb, Atlantic Africa, and the Sahel,” the same source concludes.
