Morocco officially entered the 5G era after the government approved Thursday three decrees granting licenses to Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, and inwi to establish and operate public 5G networks.
The decrees, No. 2.25.876, 2.25.877, and 2.25.878, were adopted at the Government Council in Rabat and will take effect upon publication in the Bulletin Officiel.
The move concludes the national telecom regulator ANRT’s competitive call under Law 24-96 and marks a milestone in Morocco’s digital transformation ahead of major events such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Deployment is expected to begin in major cities and airports before expanding nationwide. Beyond faster speeds and lower latency, authorities expect industrial gains in logistics, energy, and healthcare through private 5G and IoT applications, reinforcing the sector’s 2030 roadmap.
