Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie officers in Sidi Ifni, under the regional command of Guelmim, arrested a man Thursday on suspicion of targeting vehicles owned by foreign tourists for theft.
The operation followed reports of previous break-ins involving tourist vehicles. A coordinated gendarmerie stakeout led to the arrest of the suspect, a man in his 40s with prior convictions for similar crimes, while attempting to steal from a foreigner’s car parked near a beach.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence in Sidi Ifni recovered mobile phones, foreign currency, and other items believed to have been stolen during similar incidents.
The suspect has been placed under judicial custody, in accordance with orders from the public prosecutor’s office. Authorities continue to investigate to identify any additional victims.
