TMZ reported Monday that US President Donald Trump is considering commuting music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’ 50-month prison sentence as early as this week, citing a “high-ranking White House official.”
The outlet said Trump was “vacillating” on the decision, with some aides advising against it, but noted that “Trump will do what he wants.”
Hours later, the White House dismissed the report, calling it “fake news.”
“There is zero truth to the TMZ report, which we would’ve gladly explained had they reached out before running their fake news. The President, not anonymous sources, is the final decider on pardons and commutations,” an administration official said in a statement to NBC News.
TMZ spokesperson Casey Carver defended the outlet’s story, saying, “We stand by our report.”
