The Court of Appeal in Agadir handed down prison sentences ranging from three to fifteen years against several defendants involved in violent incidents that erupted across parts of the Souss-Massa region, including Chtouka Aït Baha, Inzagane, Tiznit, and Taroudant.
Three individuals received 15-year prison terms, while another was sentenced to 12 years. Four others were given 10 years each for charges including arson, looting, vandalism, attempted theft with violence, and obstruction of public roads, as well as assaulting public officials during the protests.
The court acquitted three defendants of arson and theft but maintained convictions on other counts, also sentencing them to 10 years in prison. Additional rulings included five-year and three-year terms for others found guilty of participating in violent gatherings and destruction of public property.
A separate group of 40 defendants will face trial later, as proceedings were postponed to allow for defense preparation. They are accused of arson, armed rebellion, destruction of infrastructure, and assault on law enforcement officers during the unrest.
Authorities say the disturbances caused significant material damage across several towns, prompting a heavy judicial response to deter future acts of collective violence.
