Morocco’s Interior Ministry is investigating a wave of resignations among senior officials in several regions, including Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, following reports of mismanagement and political interference.
According to Hespress, the General Directorate of Local Authorities received numerous resignation letters from department heads and service directors, prompting concerns over disruptions in municipal administration.
Complaints filed with the Inspectorate General of Territorial Administration cite abuse of power, delayed bonuses, and internal tensions between council presidents and local executives.
Some mayors reportedly dismissed key officials, notably in finance and urban planning, after audits revealed irregularities.
Other complaints describe discrimination, intimidation, and politically motivated assignments, with officials pressured to support electoral agendas.
In response, the Interior Ministry has enacted Decree No. 1019.24, giving walis and governors expanded authority to oversee appointments, dismissals, and public procurement, in an effort to restore order and accountability within Morocco’s local administrations.
