Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized Monday to his Qatari counterpart for Israeli strikes that targeted Hamas in Qatar, a diplomat told AFP on condition of anonymity.
The call, made from the White House during Netanyahu’s U.S. visit, followed the September incident in which Israeli forces struck Hamas-linked sites on Qatari territory, leading to the death of a Qatari security guard and raising diplomatic tensions.
According to the same source, Netanyahu conveyed Israel’s “regrets” over the violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and acknowledged the seriousness of the episode. The apology comes as Doha plays a central role in mediating sensitive regional files, including indirect talks between Israel and Hamas.
