Morocco and India signed a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation Monday during a high-level visit by Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to Rabat, the Moroccan National Defense Administration said in a statement.
Singh, accompanied by a senior delegation, was received by Abdellatif Loudiyi, Morocco’s minister delegate in charge of the administration of national defense, in line with directives from King Mohammed VI.
The agreement covers cooperation in training and education, cybersecurity and defense, defense industry, and military health. It also provides for the exchange of expertise and the creation of a joint mechanism to coordinate activities, according to the statement.
The signing ceremony was attended by Gen. Mohamed Berrid, inspector general of the Royal Armed Forces and commander of the southern zone, and Gen. Mohamed Haramou, commander of the Royal Gendarmerie.
The two ministers reviewed bilateral ties, noting the new momentum since King Mohammed VI’s 2015 visit to India, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They underscored the strategic importance of the partnership, particularly in the defense sector.
Talks also touched on regional issues, South-South cooperation, and Morocco’s role as a key security actor in North and West Africa. Both sides emphasized the potential for building strategic partnerships to foster development and stability in Africa.
At the end of the meeting, the ministers expressed their joint commitment to strengthen ties through the implementation of the newly signed defense memorandum, highlighting the friendship, trust, and mutual respect underpinning Morocco–India relations.
