FIFA said Friday it received 4.5 million requests for 2026 World Cup tickets during a 10-day pre-sale window reserved for credit card holders of its sponsors.
Applications came from 216 countries and territories, with host nations the United States, Mexico and Canada leading demand. The next largest markets were Germany, England, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Spain and Italy.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the figures as a “powerful sign” of global interest in the tournament, which for the first time will expand to 48 teams and 104 matches, calling it “the biggest, most inclusive and most exciting event ever.”
Fans will be notified from Sept. 29 if they can purchase group-stage tickets, priced from $60, with sales opening Oct. 1 for a limited period. Additional sales phases will follow, including after the Dec. 5 group-stage draw in Washington. Fifteen teams have qualified so far.
