Moroccan content creator Rawaa Beauty has denied rumors claiming she was sentenced to four months in prison, calling the reports “false information.”
In an official statement posted on her social media accounts, Roaa clarified that the initial court ruling against her carried “a suspended sentence of three months, a fine of 1,000 dirhams, and civil compensation of 200,000 dirhams to the real estate company involved.”
She emphasized that she remains at home with her family and is confident in her innocence, noting that she has appealed the decision.
The case, which stems from a citizen complaint about noise from a nearby construction project, has ignited a wave of online support for the influencer, with many questioning broader issues of freedom of expression in Morocco.
Dozens of activists flooded social media platforms with posts criticizing the severity of the punishment. Many argued that the case highlights the tension between citizens’ rights to voice personal grievances and the protection of corporate interests.
Several Moroccan celebrities voiced support for Rawaa. Actress Nargis El Hallak expressed shock over the ruling, calling it excessively harsh for someone who was simply sharing her personal experience.
Actress Sahar Sadiki noted that anyone could face similar consequences for expressing discomfort about disturbances affecting their physical and mental well-being, even without naming specific parties.
Sadiki added that the case raises important questions about whether Moroccan law adequately balances individual rights and institutional protections, especially in situations where ordinary citizens complain about everyday nuisances like weekend construction noise.
