Moroccan authorities intervened Thursday to release a shipment of imported cattle that had been held aboard a Spanish vessel at the Port of Casablanca following a court order, according to Hespress AR sources.
Officials from the Casablanca-Settat regional administration and the customs authority stepped in after the city’s commercial court ordered the seizure of the livestock as part of an ongoing dispute between a major Moroccan importer and a Spanish livestock-exporting company, the sources report.
The intervention allowed importing companies to transfer the cattle to facilities in Temara and Skhirat. The shipment, which had arrived at the port last Saturday, risked significant livestock losses due to prolonged confinement, raising concerns that international animal rights groups could become involved.
Industry representatives welcomed the release, stressing they were not party to the legal dispute between the Moroccan importer and the Spanish company.
Earlier this week, the Casablanca commercial court had ordered the seizure of the cattle after the Spanish supplier allegedly caused financial losses to one of Morocco’s largest importers.
The seized shipment was carried on the vessel FALCON-UA (IMO number 8300327), which docked at Casablanca on Monday.
