FIFA said late Thursday that more than 1.5 million fans from 210 countries submitted requests for tickets to the 2026 World Cup within the first 24 hours of sales.
The highest number of requests came from the United States, Mexico, and Canada, the co-hosts of the upcoming tournament, followed by Argentina, Colombia, and Brazil. England, Spain, Portugal, and Germany led European countries in ticket requests.
Haimo Sherry, CEO of Operations for the 2026 World Cup, said the high demand reflects “the enormous excitement generated by the 2026 World Cup worldwide and the expectation that it will be a turning point in football history.”
In this first phase, fans could only register using a Visa card, FIFA’s official sponsor, which holds exclusive rights for this stage. Registration will remain open until Friday, Sept. 19.
Fans selected through a random lottery will receive emails starting Sept. 29, detailing the date and time to purchase tickets beginning Oct. 1. FIFA said individual tickets will be available for all 104 matches, along with stadium-specific and team-specific tickets.
The second registration phase is scheduled for Oct. 27–31, with ticket sales expected from mid-November to early December. A third phase will follow the group-stage draw in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 5.
