Moroccan court seizes Spanish cattle shipment amid supplier dispute

A Casablanca commercial court has ordered the seizure of cattle transported aboard the Spanish vessel FALCON-UA after it docked at the port on Monday, following a legal dispute between a Moroccan importer and a Spanish livestock supplier.

According to court filings, a Moroccan company paid €2.65 million (about 30.3 million dirhams) for a shipment of cattle from Spain. The firm accused the Spanish supplier of halting operations and attempting to bypass seizure orders by exporting livestock under a different company name.

The Moroccan buyer sought precautionary seizure under maritime trade law to protect its financial interests.

Customs authorities suspended unloading operations for the 1,500-head cargo, preventing its transport to farms near Skhirat. Importers, who claim to have paid duties and obtained clearance documents, argue they are not party to the dispute and warned the seizure risks heavy losses, with some animals already in poor condition.
