Morocco’s Interior Ministry has issued strict instructions to local authorities to execute dormant demolition orders targeting illegal villas, warehouses and shops owned by elected officials along the Rabat–Casablanca axis, Hespress reported.
According to well-informed sources, the move follows urgent reports from provincial departments of internal affairs citing suspicions of collusion and political cover-ups in urban planning violations.
The directives demand immediate enforcement of demolition rulings that had remained shelved in local offices.
The orders reportedly focus on unimplemented decisions in Had Soualem, including villas and “hangars” belonging to a current council member and former communal president, as well as illegal commercial outlets.
Similar measures extend to properties in Mediouna province, including a villa owned by a communal president and warehouses linked to other current and former elected figures, some used for banned plastic bag production.
The ministry stressed equal application of the law, amid mounting complaints of selective enforcement and favoritism in urban planning oversight.
