Public health officials in California are warning of a late summer Covid-19 wave, as infections and test positivity rates rise sharply across the state, according to The Los Angeles Times.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that coronavirus is either “growing” or “likely growing” in 30 states, including California, with social gatherings over Labor Day weekend and the reopening of schools cited as likely drivers.
The CDC added that California is experiencing “high” levels of coronavirus detected in wastewater, with lab test positivity continuing to climb. For the week ending August 23, 12.07 percent of tests statewide came back positive, double the rate in late July.
Los Angeles County saw positivity rise to 13.44 percent from 8.11 percent, Orange County to 18.1 percent from 9.4 percent, and San Francisco to 8.7 percent from 7.1 percent.
