Rabat is set to modernize its public transport system with the planned purchase of 120 next-generation buses worth more than 361 million dirhams, according to Rabat Région Mobilité. The procurement process begins in September with the opening of bids.
The order is divided into three lots: 60 standard 12-meter low-floor buses (154.6 million dirhams), 30 low-entry 15-meter buses (91.7 million dirhams), and 30 articulated 18-meter low-floor buses (115.1 million dirhams) designed for high-demand routes.
All buses will be fitted with Euro V diesel engines to reduce emissions, along with electronic ticketing systems, surveillance cameras, Wi-Fi connectivity, and passenger information screens.
The contract also covers operator training, maintenance, and a 24-month warranty. Authorities encourage local assembly or production to boost Morocco’s automotive industry and create jobs.
The project highlights Rabat’s push for sustainable, efficient and accessible mobility to meet rising demand amid rapid urban growth.
