The U.S. Mission in Morocco is set to welcome Benjamin Ziff as its new chargé d’affaires, bringing more than three decades of diplomatic experience to the post.
Ziff, a career member of the Foreign Service since 1988, most recently served as chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Cuba from 2022 to 2024. During that assignment, he oversaw the restoration of consular services, supported the private sector, and promoted human rights while navigating strained U.S.-Cuba relations.
His diplomatic career has included senior postings across Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, and the Pacific. He has served as deputy chief of mission in Bogotá, Colombia, and held public diplomacy roles in Australia, Israel, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Italy, and Iraq.
In Washington, Ziff was appointed deputy assistant secretary of state in 2015 for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, where he oversaw Nordic and Baltic relations and managed European public diplomacy initiatives.
A California native, Ziff holds degrees from California State University at Long Beach, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and the National War College. He is fluent in Spanish, Hebrew, and Italian, and has received the State Department’s Murrow Award for Excellence in Public Diplomacy.
His appointment in Rabat marks the continuation of a career focused on advancing U.S. diplomatic interests, with a particular emphasis on public diplomacy, regional security, and strengthening bilateral ties.
