Local authorities in Taounate have banned a protest scheduled for Monday outside the regional hospital, citing risks to public order.
The administrative order, issued by the head of the city’s first district annex, followed calls circulating on social media by the “Regional Coordination to End Marginalization in Taounate” to hold a demonstration on August 25 demanding improved health services.
The decision described the protest as unauthorized and open to the general public, warning it could threaten security and public order. It explicitly prohibited all forms of gatherings outside the hospital or on public roads.
Security services, auxiliary forces, and administrative authorities were instructed to enforce the ban. The order also held organizers legally responsible for any violations.
The announcement comes amid growing demands from residents for better healthcare provision in the province, where recurring complaints over hospital conditions have fueled calls for mobilization.
