Morocco will send two Canadair firefighting aircraft to support efforts to extinguish wildfires sweeping across parts of neighboring Spain, the German Embassy in Madrid announced Wednesday, quoted by Spanish media.
The planes, currently stationed in Portugal, will join European crews battling the blazes after Rabat received a request for assistance from Lisbon earlier this week.
The embassy said German firefighters are also deploying to Spain, with 67 personnel and 21 vehicles expected to arrive in the coming days to reinforce Spanish emergency services for at least two weeks.
According to the statement, the Moroccan aircraft and German teams will operate across the Iberian Peninsula in coordination with local authorities.
