Morocco has sharply increased its fresh tomato exports to Denmark, multiplying volumes nearly sixfold over three marketing seasons and surpassing a 5 percent market share for the first time, according to EastFruit data.
The kingdom , the only non-European supplier to Denmark, shipped 1,660 metric tons between July 2024 and June 2025, up 32 percent year-on-year and 67 percent from 2022/2023.
Although Denmark remains a modest destination compared with France, the UK, and the Netherlands, the rapid growth reflects Morocco’s strategy to diversify toward Scandinavian markets. Shipments now occur year-round, with peak months shifting across campaigns — October marked a record for the current season.
The Danish market is still dominated by the Netherlands and Spain, but their volumes have been declining, allowing Morocco to raise its share from under 1 percent in 2021/2022 to 3.7 percent in 2023/2024 and over 5 percent so far this year. Moroccan exporters could soon overtake France, Germany, and Italy to enter Denmark’s top five suppliers.
