A new civic initiative named the “3 May Movement” has been launched by Moroccan civil society actors and public officials to push for the full implementation of Amazigh as an official state language and to reignite institutional and political reforms outlined in the 2011 Constitution.
The group draws its name from the royal decision of May 3 2023 that declared the Amazigh New Year a national holiday. In a statement obtained by Hespress the movement criticized what it described as narrow political handling of Amazigh-related legislation and pointed to legislative delays and weak institutional performance.
It singled out the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture and Tamazight TV for failing to meet expectations set by the 2001 Ajdir speech. The group also denounced the prolonged mandate of certain officials beyond legal timelines.
Preparations for the founding congress are underway with an open call to rights groups and Amazigh stakeholders to participate in shaping future public policies.
