His Majesty King Mohammed VI has sent a message of condolences and compassion to the family of the late Ahmed Faras.
In this message, the Sovereign said He learned with deep emotion and profound sorrow of the passing of the former international footballer, the late Ahmed Faras—may God accept him in His holy mercy.
In this painful circumstance, His Majesty the King extends His heartfelt condolences and sincere compassion to all members of the late Ahmed Faras’s family, his loved ones, his friends and admirers, and through them, to the national sports community, particularly to the Chabab Mohammedia Football Club, following the loss of one of the great icons of Moroccan football and the country’s all-time top scorer, that, thanks to his exceptional talent, helped raise the profile of Moroccan football on both the continental and international levels during the 1960s and 1970s.
His Majesty also recalled that the late Ahmed Faras was the first Moroccan player to win the African Ballon d’Or in 1975 and contributed significantly to Morocco’s victory in the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Sovereign shared in the sorrow felt by the deceased’s family following this cruel loss, God’s will being unstoppable, while recalling, with consideration, the noble human qualities of the deceased and his sincere patriotism in defending the national colors, which made him a role model for future generations.
The Sovereign implores the Most High, in these blessed days, to welcome the deceased into His vast paradise, to amply reward him for his good works in the service of his homeland, and to grant the members of his family patience and comfort.
