Chelsea FC claimed the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup title on Sunday with a dominant 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
English midfielder Cole Palmer was the star of the night, opening the scoring for the Premier League side in the 22nd minute with a powerful strike that left PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma helpless. Palmer doubled Chelsea’s lead just seven minutes later, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to put his team firmly in control.
Portuguese forward João Pedro added a third goal in the 43rd minute, capping a clinical first-half performance from the London club and underscoring their superiority over the French giants.
PSG came out aggressively in the second half, pressing high in an attempt to claw back into the match. Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi and his teammates created a few promising chances, but Chelsea’s defense held firm.
Despite late efforts from both sides, the score remained unchanged. PSG’s hopes for a comeback were dashed when Portuguese midfielder João Neves was shown a red card in the 85th minute, reducing the Ligue 1 side to ten men.
The match marked the first-ever Club World Cup meeting between Chelsea and PSG. Prior to Sunday’s final, the two European powerhouses had only clashed in the UEFA Champions League, where PSG held a historical edge with three wins to Chelsea’s two, alongside three draws in eight previous encounters.
The victory secures Chelsea’s first Club World Cup title since 2021 and highlights their resurgence on the global stage.
