Moroccan gendarmerie units in El Jadida foiled an international drug trafficking attempt off the coast near the town of Oualidia on Saturday.
Patrols from the Oualidia Royal Gendarmerie and coastal surveillance teams, aided by police dogs and drones, seized 45 packages of hashish (around two tonnes) hidden in beach sand and at the base of a cliff.
A truck without license plates, allegedly used in the operation, was also confiscated.
Investigations by the Sidi Bennour judicial unit are ongoing to identify those involved.
This operation follows two earlier drug busts by El Jadida’s gendarmerie: one on Thursday in Oulad Ghanem uncovered 380 kg of tobacco, 20 kg of hashish, 40 kg of raw cannabis, and 10 grams of cocaine.
Another, two days earlier, near Sidi Moussa beach, led to the seizure of a rubber boat loaded with 1.5 tonnes of hashish and additional equipment hidden in nearby forests.
