Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch chaired a high-level interministerial committee meeting on Thursday to assess progress in the national reconstruction and rehabilitation program for areas affected by the Al-Haouz earthquake, following directives from King Mohammed VI.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted Akhannouch’s praise for the significant efforts made by various ministries and agencies. He called on the High Atlas Development Agency and all stakeholders to accelerate implementation and complete outstanding projects with maximum efficiency.
According to a presentation by the director of the High Atlas Development Agency, the reconstruction of 46,650 homesfor families impacted by the earthquake has been completed. The number of tents has dropped sharply—from 129,000 to just 47, with full removal expected by September. Solutions were also found for 4,895 homes in geographically remote areas.
The government has distributed 4.2 billion dirhams in financial aid to affected families, while emergency monthly support of 2,500 dirhams per household has totaled 2.4 billion dirhams to date.
Rehabilitation of four damaged national roads is underway, with completion rates ranging from 25% to 65%. Construction has also begun on 165 kilometers of roads and 29 engineering structures, with an investment of 920 million dirhams.
In the education sector, 269 schools have been rebuilt or rehabilitated. The Ministry of Health has completed work on 70 health centers, with plans to finish 35 more by August and an additional 14 by the end of October 2025.
The recovery plan includes livestock and barley distribution to farmers, along with restoration of economic and agricultural infrastructure. In the water sector, 43 hydrological stations have been repaired, and many villages have been reconnected to the drinking water network.
In tourism, 229 accommodation establishments received the first round of financial support, totaling 61.1 million dirhams. A second round worth nearly 30 million dirhams was disbursed to 95 additional facilities.
The meeting also reviewed support for local merchants whose shops were damaged, with approximately 1,600 tradersreceiving assistance to date.
The post-earthquake reconstruction program represents a key milestone in Morocco’s recovery efforts, highlighting the government’s commitment to coordinated, sustainable rebuilding in quake-affected regions.
