A group of Moroccan nationals traveling from Italy to Morocco for their summer holidays received emergency assistance after their bus broke down in southern France, as part of the annual “Marhaba 2025” operation.
According to Hespress AR sources, the incident occurred on July 6 in the town of Fréjus, when a bus carrying 42 Moroccan passengers en route from Naples, Italy, to Algeciras, Spain, via Marseille, suffered a sudden mechanical failure.
The travelers were part of the Operation Marhaba crossing program, an annual initiative organized to assist Moroccans living abroad as they return home for the summer. Upon receiving notification of the breakdown, reception teams stationed at the Port of Marseille alerted the central coordination office of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which oversees emergency responses within the “Marhaba” network.
The foundation, in coordination with local French authorities and the Moroccan consulate in Marseille, promptly arranged temporary shelter and basic necessities for the stranded travelers.
As repairs to the original vehicle were delayed, the foundation opted for a more comprehensive intervention. A mobile social unit from the Marseille “Marhaba” team was dispatched directly to Fréjus to monitor the situation, communicate with travelers, and oversee logistics on-site.
A replacement bus was quickly secured to allow the journey to resume toward southern Spain. Passengers also received hot meals and continuous social support until they were safely back on their way.
The foundation’s teams remained in contact with the replacement bus throughout its trip across France and Spain. Upon arrival at Tangier Med Port, the local reception unit was ready and waiting.
A final transport arrangement was then made to distribute the travelers to their final destinations inside Morocco, ensuring their journey concluded in dignified and safe conditions, the source confirmed.
