Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska on Thursday praised the smooth execution of Operation Marhaba 2025, highlighting the “perfect coordination” with Morocco as key to its success.
“None of this would be possible without the close collaboration and perfect coordination with our neighbor and partner, Morocco, with whom we maintain constant contact during the preparations and throughout the crossing operation,” said the Spanish minister during a visit to the southern coastal city of Tarifa.
The Spanish government, through Grande-Marlaska, emphasized in a press release by the Ministry of the Interior the importance of preparation and coordination with Morocco, announcing “a new historic record” in terms of travel volume.
The first month of the operation recorded a 5.6% increase in the number of passengers and a 6.9% rise in vehicles boarded at Spanish ports compared to the 2024 campaign, confirming the upward trend observed in recent years, the press release noted.
The Spanish minister also held a meeting with the Consul General of Morocco in Algeciras, Driss Soussi, as well as with the representative of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which supports Moroccan nationals crossing the Strait of Gibraltar each year, it added.
On High Instructions from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity launched the “Marhaba” operation to welcome Moroccans living abroad on June 10, by activating a comprehensive reception system simultaneously in Morocco, France, Spain, and Italy.
