Moroccan authorities expelled three Spanish nationals from Laayoune on Tuesday, citing their involvement in political activities supporting the separatist Polisario Front and threatening Morocco’s territorial integrity.
The individuals — Óscar Allende, Leonor Suárez, and Raúl Conde — are members of the pro-Polisario advocacy group Cantabria for the Sahara. They were transported by land to Agadir, after being officially declared persona non grata, according to a well-informed Hespress AR source.
Authorities allege that the activists held meetings with pro-Polisario elements and participated in politically charged gatherings opposing Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
The same source indicated that the trio were also engaged in drafting human rights reports with an overt bias favoring Polisario narratives, and lacked adherence to standards of neutrality and journalistic balance.
In addition, the group reportedly took part in propaganda activities, including the dissemination of allegations concerning the exploitation of natural resources in a manner aligned with separatist rhetoric.
The expulsion, officials noted, reflects Morocco’s firm stance against the misuse of professional or political cover to advance agendas contrary to national sovereignty.
The move underscores Rabat’s ongoing zero-tolerance policy toward foreign actors attempting to interfere in the Sahara dispute under the guise of activism or reporting.
This latest action adds to growing diplomatic and legal efforts by Moroccan authorities to counter external attempts at legitimizing the Polisario Front and to safeguard what the government deems non-negotiable elements of national unity.
