Egypt’s Musicians Syndicate, led by artist Mostafa Kamel, has announced plans to honor renowned singer Sherine Abdel Wahab, following recent controversy surrounding her performance at Morocco’s Mawazine Festival in June.
In a public statement, Kamel described Sherine as a “respected colleague and distinguished artist,” praising her 25-year career and vocal legacy across the Arab world.
He affirmed the syndicate’s support, stating it “does not abandon its members during difficult times.”
The planned tribute is widely seen as a symbolic show of solidarity after Sherine faced public backlash and criticism for what some called an uncharacteristic stage presence during her closing performance at the festival.
Sherine responded to the attacks by threatening legal action against those she says defamed her, claiming she is the target of a coordinated smear campaign.
