Recent disturbances in downtown Casablanca involving undocumented migrants from sub-Saharan Africa have sparked public outcry, amplified by widely circulated videos on social media.
Civil society groups and local residents have voiced mounting frustration over repeated street altercations and disorderly conduct that, they argue, threaten public safety and social cohesion in several neighborhoods.
Activist Aziz Chaaik from Sidi Bernoussi emphasized that while these actions stem from individual behavior, they are increasingly unsettling communities and straining local security.
He urged authorities to take firm, law-abiding measures, bolster police patrols, and devise humane solutions that recognize the shared African identity of the migrants and host society.
Mahdi Lemina of the Association for Equality and Citizenship echoed these concerns, stressing the need to uphold public order without undermining the rights granted to migrants under royal directives.
