Head of government Aziz Akhannouch has signed a decree formally dismissing Imane Belmaati from her role as Director General of Morocco’s National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC), following a proposal by Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills.
The decision was made official on June 24, sources told Hespress AR.
Belmaati’s removal comes just 14 months after her appointment in April 2024. She had previously served as acting director following the dismissal of her predecessor, Noureddine Benkhalil.
According to a well-informed source, the dismissal was prompted by ANAPEC’s failure to meet key deadlines for implementing the government’s employment roadmap, as well as underwhelming results and the absence of a practical strategy to align with national job creation goals.
The agency was also criticized for not adequately addressing shortcomings highlighted in reports by the Court of Auditors and the Finance Ministry’s Inspectorate.
In a response, Belmaati stressed that appointments to senior posts are governed by Decree No. 2.12.412 (dated October 11, 2012), specifically Article 11, which outlines both appointment and dismissal procedures.
She argued that such decisions must be legally grounded and formally proposed to the head of government.
A new interim director is expected to be appointed soon, pending the nomination of a permanent successor.
